Community/Charitable Gardens
Community/charitable gardens provide fresh vegetables and fruits to local food pantries. Our area is fortunate to have a number of these gardens, many of which need volunteers to help during the growing season. We have listed a few below. If you know of any more, please send us an email with the information.
Delaware Valley College (Doylestown) is partnering with the Bucks County Opportunity Council and Philabundance to create a one-acre charitable garden on its main campus. The garden will help provide fresh, healthy food for families who are struggling in Bucks County area.
Buckingham Township Community Garden Initiative. The Buckingham Township Civic Association is in the early stages of starting a community garden in Holicong Park, York Road/Route 263. Buckingham residents will be able to rent their own plots, while students from local schools will be given space to raise produce for area food pantries.
Sandy Ridge Community Garden (Doylestown), sponsored by the Doylestown Mennonite Church. At least 50 percent of the produce from this garden is donated to local food pantries and soup kitchens.
Newtown Elementary School. In this community garden student gardeners donate vegetables and fruits to Philabundance and a food pantry in Penndel.
